The race that everyone is watching, going into the season, is the race between Hartline, Newton and Mossokowski for the starting Quarterback position.
Coming out of Spring practice, Joker communicated that no one differentiated themselves enough to be named the outright starter going into Fall. Hartline had separated himself, but Mossokowski and Newton both made up enough ground at the end of camp to keep the competition alive.
Most seem to think the race is between Newton and Hartline with Hartline having the edge mainly due to experience. I believe the position is Hartline's to lose. We will know in less then three weeks.
